The AFMs drive-by-wire kit builds the centerpiece for automated driving applications. The kit enables the control of the steering, acceleration und braking via a rapid control prototyping unit, thus allowing the vehicle to be driven automatically. After the integration of the drive-by-wire-kit in combination with a high-performance rapid control prototyping controller, a basic chassis control software was developed. It enables different driving modes such as driving via a controller game pad, automated driving of standard maneuvers for vehicle parameter identification as well as path-following basing on nonlinear control approaches. The first test drives with a controller game pad were carried out at DLR airfield next to our institute. Seamless transition between forward and backward travel and driving off from standing positions are possible. The other driving modes, maneuver execution and path following, were tested on a former air base together with AI-based detection of lane limits via camera images.
