The ROboMObil was awarded with the Connected Vehicle Prototyping Prize of the European Satellite Navigation Competition for its cooperative road damage evasion application.
The cooperative road damage evasion application enables a vehicle to locally circumnavigate a road damage (e.g. pothole) detected by another vehicle. On the basis of special on-board sensors and accurate positioning technology (e.g. EGNOS/Galileo or DGPS) a vehicle is able to detect pothole and disseminate its exact geographic location to other road participants using vehicle-to-vehicle communication. A prototype vehicle with autonomous steering capabilities is able to receive this information warn the driver, calculate an evasion manoeuvre and circumnavigate round the road damage.
